You Really Gotta Get a New License

We went up to Phoenix for the afternoon and evening Saturday to celebrate my friend Christine's son Cades's 2nd birthday. It was a fun party with family and close friends. On the drive up Erin and I were talking about how there would probably be a lot of cops out and that he was aware of watching his speed (since he likes to go a bit faster than some) so he did not get pulled over. He was even saying how since he has been driving on the freeways so much this summer for various trips he is surprised he has not had worse luck.

After the party we headed home about 8pm. The freeway was fairly empty most of the drive home. A few miles before our exit Erin was trying to get around a truck in the fast lane that should have been in the slow lane and suddenly there was a car right behind us. He was pretty sure it was a cop but then it held back for a bit. Sure enough a few minutes later here come the red and blue lights! So we get pulled over on I-10.

The cop was very nice and we actually started talking about me being pregnant with a boy and he has boys, etc, etc. He told Erin he pulled him over for failure to signal twice when changing lanes (I did not know not using your turn signal was illegal) and paced him going 70+ in a 65 but he let him off with just a warning for the failure to signal. I couldn't help but laugh the rest of the way home and neither could Erin (who drove very carefully and signaled) after our conversation we had just had.

When the cop was looking at Erin's license he said - "You really need to get a new license." He still has the old style one from when he was like 18 years old. It doesn't even have a bar code swipe thing on the back. It was just really funny the way he said it as if it was the oldest license he has seen. Anyway, a small adventure on our holiday weekend!
